Pseudoboletus parasiticus – the Parasitic Bolete
7 October 2023
On a Norfolk Fungus Study Group fungi foray at Catfield Fen some of the group found Pseudoboletus parasiticus.
The daughter and I had missed this find because we were in a small vanguard group ahead — we had to leave the foray early and were disappointed that we would not see this fungus.
Walking back, by the side of the path, we stumbled upon this wonderful specimen…
Pseudoboletus parasiticus is apparently rare ( First Nature ) and is only found with Scleroderma citrinum – the common earthball.
In the photo above, the small bolete is growing off the earthball.
